Patients with end-stage renal disease&nbsp;are a unique population requiring special attention to drug use and dosing due to significantly altered pharmacokinetics, tendency to polypharmacy, and comorbid risk factors. Many medications are either completely contraindicated, or if used, must be dose reduced to reduce risk of adverse events. Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are known to lead to emergency room visits, hospitalization, and/or prolonged hospitalization in the general population, but to what extent ADRs contribute to the high admission rates and long lengths of stay in patients with ESRD is uncertain.The purpose of this project is to implement cost-efficient strategies that are embedded into routine clinical practice, involving the entire health care team and patients, in order to reduce the incidence of ADRs.
Aims:
i) To determine the rate of preventable ADRs in ESRD patients over the last 24 months at the MUHC resulting in emergency room visits, hospitalization, or prolonged length of stay.
ii)&nbsp; To identify modifiable risk system-related factors for these ADRs.
iii) To develop and implement tools and strategies addressing these factors in order to reduce rates of hospital ADRs.&nbsp;

INTRODUCTION
Problem: 60% of the Canadian population faces health literacy issues.
Needs: Clinical organizations must improve access to health-related information in clear and simple languages (legal obligation).
However, the literature on how to plan, implement, assess and sustain Health Literate clinical organizations is sparse.
Thus, the objective is to synthesize knowledge on these issues.
METHODS
Design: Systematic mixed studies review (including qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods studies)
Specific questions: In clinical settings, e.g. a GMF or a CLSC, how to (Q1) plan, (Q2) implement, (Q3) evaluate, and (Q4) sustain a Health Literate organization?
Eligibility criteria: TBD with the supervisor and GMF representatives (clinicians, managers, and paptient partners)
Sources of documents: TBD with a librarian.
Search strategy: TBD with a librarian.
Identification and selection of documents: 2 independent reviewers using RYYAN.
Critical appraisal: 2 independent reviewers using the MMAT.
Synthesis: 2 reviewers using thematic analysis.
EXPECTED RESULTS
A "Health Literate Organization" plan for McGill GMFs will be established with the GMF representatives.

Nephrotic syndrome is the most common cause of kidney disease in children worldwide, with up to 3000 Canadian children newly diagnosed each year. Most children respond to first-line treatment with corticosteroids and are labelled as having steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS). There is enormous phenotypic variability in SSNS, ranging from an isolated episode to a severe relapsing course to dependence on ongoing immunosuppression to maintain remission; the cause of this variability is largely unknown and I hypothesize that genetic determinants play a role. In this project, I will correlate the specific clinical features of SSNS in 749 children with their genetic variants by (broadly) using linear regression analysis. This study will determine if there are genetic variants that can predict SSNS phenotype, which will then allow us to risk stratify patients with SSNS to optimize treatment regimens.&nbsp;
For this project, the applicant will be required to collect the specific clinical information from my database of children with SSNS. This would include demographic information, number of disease relapses, medications and dosages, time to remission during initial episode, etc. I will later use this information to relate it to the genetic information collected on the same children.&nbsp;

Hello everyone!

I am looking for an 3rd or 4th year med stutent (or junior resident) to participate in my research project on plasma cell leukemia (PCL). The objective of the project is to better understand this very rare disease and to try to understand why some patients with multiple myeloma transform into PCL.
&nbsp;
This is a multicentre retrospective project, which involves 8 teaching hospitals, including the Jewish General Hospital. I am looking for a person to carry out data collection in this hospital. As I am a resident in hematology in Sherbrooke, I have no access to the McGill computer system. The person who will carry out the data collection must absolutely have his own access codes and be autonomous with the use of the JGH computer system.

The involvement required is very short since there are only 8 patients (total time &lt; 10h).

Both males and females within humanitarian crises face an increased risk of SGBV. Due to the civil war in South Sudan, there are currently over 1 million South Sudanese refugees who have fled to Uganda. The goal of this research was to explore and compare the perceptions and experiences of SGBV toward South Sudanese refugees in Uganda who live in designated settlements to those who self-settled. To achieve this goal, mixed methods were used, including Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping, interviews, and household prevalence surveys in 2 urban centers (Gulu and Koboko) and 2 refugee settlements (Pagirinya and Palabek).

Dialysis in Vulnerable Populations

How a person is classified can affect their behaviour and decision-making. Social media is a major source of information that many people use to classify their health conditions. This could lead to increased health literacy with positive effects in early recourse for proper treatment or conflictive repercussions such as cyberchondria, sociogenic illnesses, fear and anxiety.
This is still an unexplored field. A scoping review on cyberchondria reported in 2021 that measures of this issue are still underdeveloped, and understanding its causal mechanisms requires further conceptualization.
This systematic review will explore empirical studies evaluating the effects of social media on self-perceived health status.
